Textile Talk with Alexander Hernandez

A close-up photographic portrait of artist Alexander Hernandez. He is young man with short hair shaved at the sides and with a goatee beard, and he has wrapped a brightly colored, patterned patchwork quilt around himself and is gazing upwards.

The Palo Alto Art Center is delighted to be co-presenting a Textile Talk by artist Alexander Hernandez with the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles and the New Museum Los Gatos. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn about the work of Hernandez, a textile and mixed-media artist whose vibrant quilted works explore issues of gender, immigration, and cultural assimilation with dynamic and creative techniques.

In this hour-long virtual discussion at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, Hernandez will discuss his recent work, highlighting his experimental approach to textiles with non-traditional materials and techniques such as spray paint, found objects, and accentuation of rips, stains, and loose threads.

This Textile Talk supports New Directions, SJMQT’s 45th anniversary exhibition, Alexander Hernandez: Exhibiting the Artist in Residence at NUMU, and Hernandez’s participation in Creative Attention: Art and Community Restoration at the Art Center.
