The mission of the Regional Water Quality Control Plant is to protect the San Francisco Bay by cleaning and treating wastewater before it is discharged to the Bay. The Plant is owned and operated by the City of Palo Alto. As a regional partner, it treats wastewater for East Palo Alto Sanitary District, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Stanford University.

The Plant works closely with the City’s Watershed Protection group which works with businesses and residents to prevent water pollution. They provide outreach to the public and to students, oversight of businesses, and participate in regional collaborations to ensure our waterways are protected.

About the Plant

The Plant is the sixth largest treatment plant in the Bay Area treating 20 million gallons of sewage a day – 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
