To See Takes Time: Experiencing Colors and Abstraction with Pastel
“I know now that most people are so closely concerned with themselves that they are not aware of their own individuality. I can see myself, and it has helped me to say what I want to say—in paint.” “It takes courage to be a painter. I always felt I walked on the edge of a knife. On this knife, I might fall off on either side. But I’d walk it again. So what. So what if you do fall off? I’d rather be doing something I really wanted to do.” – Georgia O’Keeffe
In this two-hour workshop, participants will begin by exploring the work of American painter Georgia O’Keeffe and her unique way of seeing nature. The session will start with a short video about O’Keeffe, followed by a pastel demonstration and hands-on exploration of primary color harmony. During the second hour, participants will create their own abstract work with pastel, drawing inspiration from personal photos on their phones or provided landscape images.
This workshop is open to adults of all skill levels. All materials, including pastels, 10 x 13 inch pastel papers, and fixatives, will be provided. Please note that pastels can be messy, so dress accordingly. The class is limited to a maximum of 7 participants.
