Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Join us this May for Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month! The City of Palo Alto celebrates our Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander community and shares their rich heritage through activities and events, including library storytimes and a Family Movie Night, and much more. 

Join the library for an AANHPI-themed family storytime including stories, rhymes, and songs on Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m.

• Brown Bag Book Club will be discussing The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui (Tuesday, May 10 at noon) Registration is required. 
• Stay Woke Book Club will be discussing Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu (Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m.) Registration is required. 
• Shibori Workshop for Adults (Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m.) Explore the ancient Japanese dyeing technique of shibori at this beginner's workshop. Registration is encouraged as supplies are limited, however walk-ins are welcome while supplies last! 
• Teach a Librarian How to Play Videogames on Twitch.tv (Thursday, May 19 at 5 p.m.): This Stream will feature AAPI content creators in the Dreams universe for PS4 and PS5. This will be our first PS5 game stream! 
• Shibori Workshop for Teens (Friday, May 20 at 4:30 p.m.) Beginner's shibori workshop for teens. Registration is encouraged as supplies are limited; however, walk-ins are welcome while supplies last!

Join the Community Services Department for Family Movie Night on the Mitchell Park Southeast Athletic Field! In celebration of Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage month, we are showing "Moana" on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. This is a free event, but pre-registration is required. Capacity is limited, so register early.
