Next date: Wednesday, April 01, 2026 | 05:30 PM to 07:30 PM

Join Cubberley Artist-in-Residence artist Tara de la Garza for a hands-on workshop that turns discarded plastic into something useful and long-lasting. Using fused recycled film plastic, participants will create a cardholder, pencil case, or small toiletry bag to take home.

You will be guided through the process of transforming everyday plastic waste into durable “pleather,” then shown how to cut and sew your chosen item. No sewing experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

Optional: Bring spare zippers if you have them. Some will be available. We will also be collecting newspaper delivery bags, as well as green and brown plastic containers and bottle caps marked #2, for an upcoming public art sculpture.

Tara de la Garza works with communities to creatively reuse hard-to-recycle plastics through workshops, public art, and small-scale production, helping build local skills and a circular economy.
