Why Youth Mental Health First Aid:
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This 8-hour training gives adults who interact with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
After training, you will be able to:
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
- Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
- Understand how to interact with a person in crisis
- Know how to connect a person with help
- Use self-care tools and techniques
*These trainings are offered through support by a $2M Federal Earmark.
**Trainings are conducted by Momentum for Health, a non-profit organization in Santa Clara County that helps people achieve mental and emotional health, discover their potential, and fully participate in life.
