2026-2028 Green Building & Local Energy Reach Code Updates
Next date: Wednesday, August 13, 2025 | 04:00 PM
to 06:00 PM
Every three years, the State of California adopts new building standards. While the State sets the minimum standards, local jurisdictions can enact more stringent building standards based on unique local climatic, geologic, and topographic conditions. The City is updating its building code standards for 2026-2028 and are proposing to adopt local green energy reach codes that go beyond State requirements. The City has long used green building and energy reach code regulations as a strategy for achieving its climate action and sustainability goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 80% by 2030.
Join this conversation at a community meeting on Wednesday, August 13 at 4 p.m. in City Hall to learn more and share your input and feedback on the proposed local amendments. Proposals will be shared with the City Council for their consideration in the fall.
Note: A separate, but similar, session will be offered on August 12 for architects, contractors and engineers interested in reach code, green code and other related building standards updates. Email GreenBuilding@paloalto.gov for information about joining that meeting.
