The Palo Alto Community Survey is a feedback tool that helps the City Council and City staff understand community perspectives on current services and programs, as well as unmet needs and priorities. The survey was initially sent via mail on August 13 to a random sample population of resident households. On September 15, the survey opens citywide.

With the 34th anniversary of Loma Prieta on Oct. 17, 2023, and two earthquakes yesterday in Northern California — one near Berkeley (2.6M) and one in Humboldt County (2.9M) — it’s a good reminder to make sure we’re prepared in case one hits our area. Over 179 earthquakes ranging between 2.5 and 6.0 magnitude have hit the United States in the last month per the United States Geological Survey. Scientists believe the next major earthquake will likely hit the San Francisco Bay Area between now and 2032, so it is critical that everyone make a plan on what to do when that time comes. To help you get started, the City is sharing earthquake preparedness events, tips, and resources so you can know what to do before, during and after the next one hits.
