Minimum Wage Rate Change Effective January 1, 2023

Effective January 1, 2023, the minimum wage rate for the City of Palo Alto is $17.25 per hour. The City adjusts the minimum wage on January 1 of each year, based on the Bay Area Consumer Price Index as published by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The minimum wage requirement applies to all employees who work two (2) hours per week within Palo Alto. 

Employers must post the 2023 Official Minimum Wage Employer Poster and Employee Know Your Right Poster where information is accessible by employees.

It is against the law for an employer to discriminate or take adverse action against an employee for exercising their rights to be paid a minimum wage of $17.25 under the Ordinance. Covered employees are entitled to these rights regardless of immigration status.
