Palo Alto Pilots New AI Chatbot Service Enhancing Public Information

Beta testing the multilingual service enables continued improvement and complements the City’s website search engine 

PALO ALTO, CALIF. – The City of Palo Alto announced today the piloting of CityAssist, a new AI chatbot assistant on the City’s website, an additional 24/7 online tool to complement the City’s website search engine and to help residents find fast answers in over 70 languages.

Palo Alto’s CityAssist is powered by Citibot, a leader in AI solutions for local governments. Built to serve Palo Alto’s community, CityAssist will enhance access to information on local services, City capital projects, department information, programs and more. It will also adjust based on feedback received. Chat with CityAssist on desktop or mobile devices by visiting paloalto.gov and clicking the chat icon located in the bottom right corner of the screen. CityAssist greets users instantly through chat and guides them through their inquiry by reading through webpage, calendar event, and news article content from PaloAlto.gov. Share user experience to help retool and improve the service. 

CityAssist is another AI resource that the City is thoughtfully implementing as a service to the community. Other AI services the City is using includes real-time City Council meeting translation and the largest Bay Area AI wildfire early detection sensor technology and providing real time alerts to responders. Palo Alto City Library also offers AI workshops and support for the community using AI in daily life.

CityAssist reinforces the City’s commitment to constituent response and engagement as another resource for the community’s use complementing Palo Alto 311.
