Temporary Road Closure Extension Survey

On May 16, 2022, Staff will be seeking City Council consideration of an extension of the temporary road closures on Ramona Street and California Avenue until December 31, 2023. In addition to the request to extend the temporary road closures, staff are proposing to add additional recommended guidelines to the temporary closed streets program.

 

A new community survey is open for the public to provide feedback about the temporary street closure extension on California Avenue and Ramona Street near University Avenue in Downtown. Feedback gained from the survey will help inform City Council as they consider recommendations at their May 16 City Council meeting. Thank you in advance for your participation.

 

Proposed additional recommendations include: 

  • Implement a dedicated emergency access lane.
  • Implement a dedicated two-way bicycle lane.
  • Large tents only permitted during inclement weather months (November – March).
  • Installation of edge treatments around dining spaces required.
  • Sidewalk encroachment shall return to eight feet of clearance.  
  • California Avenue: staff may install appropriate enhancements or aesthetics elements that will also provide a visible distinction from the access lane and dining areas.

All changes to the temporary program will be coordinated with the Urban Village Farmers’ Market to accommodate minimum market footprint requirements.
