Local Events Honoring Juneteenth

There are many local celebrations honoring Juneteenth. The City of Palo Alto invites you to learn more about these community events below.

Location: 1900 University Circle, East Palo Alto, California
Description: “Join us for a day of music, dancing, kids activities, an artisan market and amazing food, as we celebrate our strong and loving fathers on Fathers Day.”
Date: June 19 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Location: 97 Hillview Ave. Los Altos, CA 94022
Description: “This annual Juneteenth Festival will feature music, speakers, poetry, education booths, auction/fundraising events, community art, food and wine.”
Date: Friday June 17 through Sunday June 19 | Gallery Open 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Old Fellows Lodge, 823 Villa St., Mountain View, CA 94041
Description: “The gallery event this Juneteenth weekend will feature Bay Area artists who created work for RISE SJ highlighting multicultural efforts towards justice in the South Bay. Prints of the murals by some of the area’s hottest up-and-coming talents will be on display and available for sale, and 25% of the proceeds earned will be donated to SURJ @ Sacred Heart’s Accountability Partners: South Bay organizations supporting families of those impacted by police violence and incarceration (Silicon Valley DeBug), immigrant rights (PASOS and the Rapid Response Network) and indigenous land rematriation (Amah Mutsun Land Trust).”
Stanford University is hosting several events honoring Juneteenth:
Quilt Exhibit and Presentation
Date: Wednesday June 15, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. | Location: Stanford Redwood City (SRWC) Conference Center, Cardinal Hall, 505 Broadway
Description: “The African American Quilt Guild of Oakland (AAQGO) will share their over 20 year history as well as their contributions to the East Bay Community and beyond. The presenter will review the historic and artistic qualities displayed in the African American quilting tradition. Several members of AAQGO will be on hand to share some of their quilts. Light refreshments will be provided at conclusion of event. Please note: Masks are strongly encouraged while attending event.”
History Exhibit: Black History Museum & Learning Center
Date: Thursday, June 16, 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Location: Fisher Conference Center
Description: “Visit this engaging and educational Black history exhibit. Stop by the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center to learn about Black Americans’ rich history and contributions to the American experience.”
Worship: Rev. Dr. Valerie Miles-Tribble
Date: Sunday, June 19, 11:00 a.m. | Location: Stanford Memorial Church
Description: “Attend a worship service by Rev. Dr. Sakena De Young-Scaggs, pastor of Memorial Church, and featuring Rev. Dr. Valerie Miles-Tribble, Professor at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, the author of Change Agent Church in Black Lives Matter Times: Urgency for Action.”

Date: Tuesday, June 21, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. | Location: Stanford Redwood City (SRWC), Stanford Square
Description: “Everyone is invited to decorate a “new star” and incorporate it with others on a large installation wall. The art piece takes inspiration from the Juneteenth flag, which has come to symbolize “new freedom, new people, and a new star.” The literal and metaphorical idea of reflection is present in the art. People may observe their reflection amid the mural in a mirror surface of words spelling J.U.N.E.T.E.E.N.T.H.”

The City of San Jose is hosting several events throughout the week in honor of Juneteenth:
Juneteenth Happy Hour & Sankofa Open Mic Night
Thursday June 16, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. | Location: Enso Night Club, San Jose
Description: “Come on out to our local black-owned lounge and bar, Enso's, to rock the Mic, express yourself, recharge and reconnect with Live DJ and Guest Emcee Prentice Powell.”
Education before the Celebration
Friday June 17, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. | Location: Guildhouse, San Jose
Description: “This day will continue the Festival’s tradition of an evening of speakers with inspirational and educational messaging the night before the big event, with Amanda Seals (Insecure) and Elaine Brown (Black Panthers) at the Guildhouse.”
Juneteenth In the Streets Festival
Saturday June 18, 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Location: SoFA District, Downtown San Jose
Event will be Emcee’d by Marcus Washington, Anchor, NBC Bay Area and will include headliners Kierra Sheard and Tamar Braxton. Historically, the event has resulted in over 6,000 attendees.
