Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Stockton Fire Captain Max Fortuna

Stockton Fire Department’s Max Fortuna (47) was struck by gunfire while he and his crew responded to a fire this morning. Captain Fortuna was transported to a hospital where he eventually succumbed to his injury. Max Fortuna, a 21 year veteran of the fire service, leaves behind a wife and two grown children.
Palo Alto Fire Department Chief Geo Blackshire authorized flags at fire stations to be lowered to half-staff in honor and memory of Captain Fortuna.
In accordance with City policies and procedures, the Fire Chief or Police Chief may authorize half-staffing of state and local flags at all City fire stations for the loss of life in the line of duty of any public safety staff member in the State of California. The flags will remain at half-staff from the date of death to the date of the funeral or memorial service. All flags may also be placed at half-staff at City fire stations upon an extraordinary loss of life of public safety members nationwide and under other circumstances.
