Police Arrest Man for Involvement in Stabbing Incident

Palo Alto, CA – Police arrested a man Thursday night for attempted murder after being involved in a stabbing incident.
On Thursday, October 2, 2025, at about 11:34 p.m., one of our officers was on the 400 block of Ramona Street when they were flagged down by a male who reported that he had just been stabbed. The victim, a male in his twenties, reported that he had been in an argument with the suspect while inside of a business located on the 400 block of Waverley Street. The two men did not know each other. The argument continued outside where it became physical. During the altercation, the victim was stabbed multiple times. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries. The officers responding conducted follow up and were able to locate the suspect nearby and detained him without incident.
Officers booked 36-year-old Diyar Polat of Palo Alto into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder (a felony). Polat’s booking photograph is posted above.
