Greenhouse Gas (GHG)

Emission Reduction

 91.8 MT CO2e/yr
 Annual Electricity Savings 7,400 kWh
 Annual Gas Savings 16,400 therms
 Annual Water Savings 1,636,707 gallons
Annual Utility Cost Savings $54,458

The Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (CIEEP) provided an on-site energy assessment of The Westin hotel, qualifying them for a $16,564 incentive from CPAU’s Business Customer Rebate Program (BCR). A reduction in water use also qualified the customer for an $8,752 rebate through Valley Water's Water Efficient Technology Rebate Program (WET). Veolia, the program's designated engineering consultant, evaluated energy efficiency opportunities. CPAU then followed up with the customer and advised them on potential incentives and utility bill impacts, if they elected to proceed with the recommended installations. Ultimately, the customer installed a new ozone laundry system on three commercial washers. After installation, monitoring devices were used to verify usage and performance. The rebate was issued based on the confirmed savings.

Project Benefits

  • Customized facility energy evaluation with an engineering consultant.
  • Detailed report on facility energy use with recommendations for efficiency measures, including estimated savings, costs, available rebates and incentives, and projected GHG emissions reductions.
  • Third party verification of achieved energy savings.
  • Turnkey project implementation services are available through CPAU's consultant.

Results - Energy Savings

As a result of the project, the customer saw a significant decrease in electricity, gas, and water use. Overall, the project resulted in annual savings of 7,400 kWh of electricity, 16,400 therms of gas, and 1,636,700 gallons of water. These savings can be attributed to the following:

  • 91% reduction in hot water usage. This measure saves 16,400 therms per year by minimizing the need for hot water wash cycles.
  • Overall decrease in wash time. Wash times decreased by an average of 12%, resulting in lower electricity consumption.
  • 5.3 fewer laundry loads per day. This led to water savings of 5,241 gallons per day.

The energy savings are equivalent to annual GHG savings of 91.8 MT CO2e per year, which is equal to 10,330 gallons of gasoline consumed.

Results - Cost Savings

As a result of the energy savings detailed in the previous section, the customer saw an annual reduction of $54,458 in their utility costs. With a total incentive amount of $25,316 from the BCR Incentive and WET Rebate, the simple payback period for this project was only 4 months.
