Sculpture workshop with artist Shannon Wright

Shannon Wright, Cubberley Artist Studio Program Artist in Residence and Professor of Spatial Art at San Jose State University, will lead a workshop focused on making Tensile Sculptures: sculptures based on lightweight structures such as tents, umbrellas, kites, and some kinds of contemporary architecture. Participants will work with dowels, (flexed and connected by wire,) as well as flexible basketmaking reed and wire. We will then make a “skin” for these structures, using stretched nylon stocking material. The sculptures are light, ethereal, and perfect for suspending.
