Summer is in full swing in Palo Alto! Join us for exciting events throughout the whole month of July. Enjoy family movie nights, explore the Palo Alto Clay & Glass Festival, unleash your creativity at craft workshops and gain a behind-the-scenes look at City services. Creative Writing for Kids I Tuesday, July 9 | 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. I Mitchell Park Library 

Explore your creative writing skills at the library! Thinking about entering our annual Elizabeth Stewart Writing Contest for kids but need some inspiration? Practice your writing skills with us and then write your own story! Registration recommended but not required. Open to children ages 6-12. 

Family Movie Nights | Fridays | July 12 & 19 | 7 p.m. | Mitchell Park Athletic Fields 

Join the City of Palo Alto's Recreation Department for the 4th annual Summer Family Movie Night Series. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks for a fun-filled family night. We can't wait to see you there!

Palo Alto Clay & Glass Festival I Saturday, July 13-14 I 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. I Palo Alto Art Center 

ACGA Clay & Glass Festival, July 13-14, 2024 on the beautiful grounds of the Palo Alto Art Center showcasing original art by over 120 regional makers: home decor, functional ware, sculpture, gifts, demonstrations, food trucks, valet parking, and lots of family fun!  

Mental Health First Aid Training I Saturday, July 13 & Saturday, July 27 | 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I Downtown Library 

Support your friends, families, and neighbors by becoming certified in Mental Health First Aid. In this two-part training, you will learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. To receive certification, participants must attend both Part 1 and Part 2 sessions of the same month. Part 1 sessions are on the 2nd Saturday of the month; Part 2 sessions are on the 4th Saturday of the month. Each session is four hours with a break for participants to get lunch on their own.

Master Gardeners: Top Ten Habits of Happy and Successful Gardeners I Sunday, July 14 | 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. I Rinconada Library  

Are the weeds winning the battle in your garden? Do you struggle to keep everything watered? Gardening should be relaxing and enjoyable, yet sometimes it can feel like a battle against the elements. Join Master Gardener Sharon Erickson to learn some of the habits common to happy and successful home gardeners. 

Twilight Concert Series I Saturdays I 6:30 p.m. I Rinconada Park & Mitchell Park 

It's that time again! Celebrate community all summer long by attending our popular Twilight Concert Series from June through August at either Rinconada Park or Mitchell Park. All the concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Food trucks onsite.

Enjoy live music and eat and shop local at 3rd Thursdays on California Avenue. Musical groups will be playing at various locations along California Avenue creating an opportunity to explore and support local businesses. Plus, other attractions like photo booths, poetry readings, and community to connect and socialize.

Meet the Artist | July 24 | 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. | Virtual

Meet artist Harumo Sato and share what makes Palo Alto special to help inform her design. They are commissioned to pain a new mural in Downtown this fall.

Youth Mental Health First Aid and Training I Saturday, July 20 I 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I Mitchell Park Community Center 

First Aiders will complete two, four-hour sessions in an instructor-led class, totaling 8-hours of training. For certification, registration and attendance for both sessions is required. Please contact Kennya Rodriguez with Momentum for Health to register krodriguez@momentumforhealth.org

The City hosts this annual event to showcase some of the “behind the scenes” work that we do for the community. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for a fun and educational day for people of all ages.

Join this webinar to meet Bay Area-based artists Mona Caron and Nigel Sussman and share what makes Palo Alto special to help inform their designs. They are commissioned to do new murals in Downtown this fall.

Pages of Joy: Handmade Booklet Making Workshop I Tuesday, July 30 | 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. I Mitchell Park Library 

Join us for an exciting booklet making workshop with visual artist and art educator Nasim Moghadam, who is an artist-in-residence with the City of Palo Alto and the Cubberley Artist Studio Program! Discover the art of crafting your own booklets from scratch. Learn various techniques, from folding to binding to embellishing, and unleash your creativity on every page. Whether you're a beginner or experienced crafter, this workshop promises to inspire and ignite your imagination. Come and create your own unique booklets to treasure or share with others!
