Palo Alto City Council Elects 2025 Mayor and Vice Mayor

During their reorganization meeting this evening, the Palo Alto City Council elected former Vice Mayor Ed Lauing as Mayor and Councilmember Vicki Veenker as Vice Mayor for the 2025 calendar year. The City Council also recognized outgoing former Mayor and Councilmember Lydia Kou and outgoing Councilmember Greg Tanaka for their service to the Palo Alto community, unanimously adopting resolutions noting their appreciation. Additionally, the City Council recognized former Mayor Greer Stone for his leadership and outstanding public service for his role as mayor in 2024.
Ed Lauing moves into the role as mayor following a year as the City’s vice mayor. Vicki Veenker moves into the role as vice mayor following a year as a councilmember serving as chair of the Climate Protection Ad Hoc Committee. Both Mayor Lauing and Vice Mayor Veenker were elected to the City Council in 2022 and have served on various Council committees and related Ad Hoc committees.
The City Council will hold their first business meeting on Monday, January 13, 2025 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers. The City Council will consider their 2025 priorities at their annual priority setting session on Saturday, January 25, 2025 beginning at 9 a.m., located at Mitchell Park Community Center, El Palo Alto Room. The public is encouraged to participate in Council discussions on topics of community interest at City Council meetings in-person or virtually.
