Palo Alto received an Honorable Mention in the “Small City Category” of the 2022 Climate Protection Awards from the U.S. Conference of Mayors recently. The award winners are the 16th class of mayors to be honored for successful local climate action, changing how energy is used and produced in cities resulting in reduced carbon use and emissions. Palo Alto’s mayor received the award at the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s 90th Annual meeting in Reno, Nevada on June 3 and spoke on the panel, EVs and Cities: Early Lessons from Public and Private Sector Deployments. The Mayor and Palo Alto City staff were recognized for the Multifamily Gas Furnace to Heat Pump Retrofit Pilot(PDF, 4MB), which will reduce the City’s greenhouse gas emissions and serves as a case study for future electrification projects in multifamily buildings.
