Sarah Wallis Park

0.3 acre mini-park a couple of blocks south of the California Avenue business district. Tucked into a corner, this gem of a park with its colorful plantings, provides a tranquil spot for workers, locals, and passersby.

History

Mayfield pioneer Sarah Wallis championed women’s rights.  She was a leader in the local and state suffrage movement.  In 1870 she started the Mayfield chapter and served as its president.  She also became president of the state’s first suffrage association.  Sarah and her husband, a state senator and judge, lived in a cottage on this site in their later years.
