Restroom Projects

The City of Palo Alto is currently working on installing new restrooms at a number of locations in Palo Alto recreation facilities. These recreation facilities were chosen due to the high volume of use by the community and the high-quality facilities that require a restroom facility for prolonged use. A capital improvement project was established in 2017 that provides funding every other year for new restroom facilities.

Mitchell Park Restroom

Mitchell Park, a 21.4-acre community park, offers a variety of recreational amenities for the community including recreational fields, dog park, picnic areas, Magical Bridge Playground, water play structure, multiple sports courts, and walking and biking trails.

An existing two-stall restroom currently serves the area near the Magical Bridge Playground and tennis and pickleball courts. Because this area attracts a high volume of visitors, the existing restroom is not adequate to meet the growing demand. To address the immediate need, temporary portable restrooms funded by Friends of the Palo Alto Parks were placed in June 2025. The City is now replacing the existing two-stall restroom with a four-stall restroom modular building at the same location to increase restroom capacity and better meet the needs of park visitors.

Estimated Construction: July 2026 – September 2026

Traffic Impacts: Some pathways within the park may need intermittent closures as needed during construction. Detours will be provided. “No Parking” signs may be posted as needed in the parking lot area north of the pickleball courts.
