How can I get a commercial solar PV permit?
The City of Palo Alto requires all contractors installing commercial PV systems within City limits to apply for a PV Permit and receive Final Interconnection Approval (also known as "Permission to Operate").
The City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) is the municipal utility that oversees Net Energy Metering programs and Interconnection agreements, while the City of Palo Alto Building Department processes PV Permits and issues final PV system approvals.

What programs and incentives are available for solar and battery storage?
Feed-in Tariff Program - Palo Alto CLEAN (Clean Local Energy Accessible Now) is a program to purchase electricity generated by renewable energy generation systems located in CPAU’s service territory, which coincides with the city boundaries. Programs like this, known in the industry as "feed-in tariff" programs, involve a utility paying a fixed price (tariff) for the power that is "fed into" their electric grid from local generation systems. Federal Tax Credits – Take advantage of the 26% Federal Renewable Energy Tax Credit for solar and battery storage systems installed by December 31, 2022. The tax credit drops to 22% for systems installed during 2023 and is 10% for systems installed after December 31, 2023.
