Project Description
The Natural Gas Main Replacement Project 25 will replace approximately 25,500 linear feet of natural gas mains and services with polyethylene (PE) pipe in neighborhoods of Duveneck/St. Francis neighborhood, Leland Manor neighborhood, and Midtown and Palo Verde neighborhood along Ross Road and crossing Matadero Creek and Barron Creek and is 100% grant- funded through the Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program.
The project targets replacement of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and black-wrapped steel (BWP) gas mains and gas services that are near their operational life expectancy, have become brittle over time, and are identified to be corroded.
Scope of Work
Replacing the gas distribution system with Polyethylene (PE) pipe in three neighborhoods.
Area 1
Leland Manor neighborhood - Northampton Drive and Southampton Drive
Area 2
Duveneck/St. Francis neighborhood - Walter Hays Drive, Stanley Way, & Lois Lane
Area 3
Midtown and Palo Verde neighborhoods - along Ross Road and surrounding streets.
Project Status
The Gas Main Replacement Project 25 began construction on February 23, 2026.
- Area 1 (Started 02/23/26): Leland Neighboorhood’s Northampton Drive and Southampton Drive. Installed approximately 1,600 feet of PE pipe on Newell Road and West and East Greenwich Place as of March 26, 2026.
- Area 2 (Anticipated start date 06/08/26): Duveneck/St. Francis Neighborhood’s Walter Hays Drive, Stanley Way, & Lois Lane.
- Area 3 (Anticipated start date 08/27/26): Midtown Neighborhood’s Ross Road, Loma Verde Avenue, and Middle Field Road
The anticipated completion date for the GMR 25 project is August 31, 2027.
Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Restricted work hours will be applied to school routes and bike lanes for the duration of the project.
