The Gas Main Replacement Project 26 will replace approximately 27,500 linear feet of existing natural gas mains and associated services with polyethylene (PE) pipe within the Fairmeadow, South of Midtown, Midtown, Evergreen Park, and Greenmeadow neighborhoods.
The project focuses on replacing aging polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and black-wrapped steel (BWP) gas mains and services that are approaching the end of their operational life. These materials have become brittle over time and, in some cases, exhibit corrosion. Replacement with modern PE piping will improve system reliability, enhance safety, and support the long-term integrity of the gas distribution system.
In addition, a water main replacement along Stanford Avenue in the Evergreen Park neighborhood will be included in the project. Both the water and gas mains will be replaced concurrently in this area to improve construction efficiency.
The project is currently in the design phase. The solicitation process is anticipated to begin in August 2026.
