Industrial Waste Discharge Permit

This permit is required for any significant discharge of industrial wastewater to the sanitary sewers. Discharges may stem from production, manufacturing, research and development, groundwater remediation, or process operation.

This permit is issued by the Regional Water Quality Control Plant for facilities located in East Palo Alto Sanitary District, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, and Stanford. Facilities located in Mountain View are permitted by the City of Mountain View.

How to submit your application via mail or drop box

Only hard copy applications are accepted. They must be either mailed or dropped off.

To submit hard copy applications, checks, or reports for your permit request, mail them to Pretreatment Program, 1900 Embarcadero Road, Suite 205, Palo Alto, CA 94303. You may also drop them off at the Palo Alto drop box at 1900 Embarcadero Road as shown below.

Public Notice: Industrial Waste Discharge Permit Issuances

The companies listed in the table below have Industrial Waste Discharge Permits (Permit) that will be issued soon. These Permits allow them to discharge industrial wastewater to the City of Palo Alto sanitary sewer system and ultimately to the Regional Water Quality Control Plant for treatment.

This notice is posted in compliance with Section 16.09.080(h) of the Palo Alto Sewer Use Ordinance. Interested parties and other members of the public may comment on the issuance of a permit within 45 days of issuance by emailing Pretreatment@PaloAlto.gov. The permit effective date shall not be postponed solely because of the submittal of comments. However, comments shall be considered by the Director for incorporation into future permit modification(s).
