An interactive “asteroid” you can summon with your phone, appearing across the city. A fragment of space “lands” in Palo Alto. Created by artist Miguel Novelo.
This interactive sculpture marks the imagined impact of a Bennu asteroid arrival in the city. The brushed aluminum form becomes a portal: scan it, and a full-scale asteroid appears in augmented reality—hovering in your environment, responsive to your movement and presence.
What starts as a quiet street encounter becomes a shared moment of cosmic surprise, as if space itself has briefly touched down in everyday life. Posters across the city extend the “impact,” allowing the asteroid to appear anywhere curiosity strikes.
