Campfire
Campfire by collective NGC Karen is a glowing, kinetic sculpture that reimagines the traditional campfire as a robotic, ever-changing form. Constructed from a web of bright red exercise bands, the piece stretches and shifts in a continuous choreography, accompanied by crackling sound and warm light to create a cozy, gathering space in the public realm.
Designed to invite participation, Campfire embraces wear and repair as part of its life cycle. As components break down over time, the artist and public are invited to help restore the sculpture—highlighting themes of care, interdependence, and resilience. The work also includes opportunities for conversation, hands-on repair activities, and informal learning about its mechanics.
Installed outdoors and surrounded by seating, Campfire encourages visitors to pause, connect, and reflect together.
