Downtown Murals
The Palo Alto Public Art Commission has approved artists Mona Caron, Nigel Sussman, and Harumo Sato to design and paint three temporary murals on privately owned walls in downtown Palo Alto. The wall locations are Mac’s Smoke Shop at 534 Emerson Street, Pacific Art League at 668 Ramona Street, and All Saints Episcopal Church at 555 Waverley Street. The original artwork imagery will draw inspiration from the unique character of Palo Alto, its community, history, diversity, or institutions and landmarks that make this area distinct.
Fire Station 5 Mural
California-based artist Bodeck Luna has been commissioned to create a site-specific mural for the Fire Station 5 roll-up door, at 600 Arastradero Road in south-west Palo Alto, adjacent to Juana Briones Park. The mural will have high visibility and will be experienced by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers using the busy intersection. The selected artist has met with Fire Department staff, reviewed the Palo Alto Master Plan, and has hosted in-person and virtual community meetings to gather input about the Barron Park neighborhood to inform the mural design development.
