Project Description

The City of Palo Alto Office of Transportation is evaluating and enhancing safety along the flagship Bryant Street Bicycle Boulevard through proposed traffic calming approaches and low-cost high-value engineering strategies to reduce collisions and create a low-stress environment to achieve the 2026 Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan (BPTP) vision for an 'all ages and abilities' bicycle boulevard. This project implements the 2026 BPTP priority project referenced as "BLVD_2: Bryant Street Downtown Access Project."

Project Area

The project area includes Bryant Street between Homer Avenue and Embarcadero Road—with a focus on Lincoln Avenue/Bryant Street intersection—as well as Lincoln Avenue between Waverley and Emerson streets.

Scope of Work

Install traffic calming elements along the bicycle boulevard and adjacent areas, such as traffic circles, curb extensions, and other calming interventions to enhance the cyclist experience.

Project Status

August/September 2026: City staff are currently reviewing the concept plans(PDF, 9MB) and preparing for upcoming community engagement. We want to hear from you! Join us for a Neighborhood Meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026, to discuss proposed designs, or take the online survey open now through October 9, 2026.

Concept Plans

The project team developed concept plans for the project area for community input and review. Street improvements proposed include: traffic diverter at Bryant/Lincoln, left-turn restriction from Embarcadero Road, new traffic circles, new curb extensions, and bike boulevard ground stencils throughout.
