Peter Foley is an artist who works in a variety of media. With the use of appropriated materials he composes compositions which reflect his angst of modern society. He uses references and ideas that are deeply integrated into the image making process so that they may escape those who do not take the time to explore his generous palette. He creates situations in which everyday objects are altered or detached from their natural function. By applying specific combinations and certain manipulations, different perceptions and contexts are created. Through a singular approach his works embrace both post-colonial theory as well as post-modern concepts. His works feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which make it possible to revise art history ideals and, even better, to complement it. His combining of unrelated aspects leads to surprising analogies.
