The Palo Alto Safe Routes to School Program - Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Education

The Palo Alto Safe Routes to School Program coordinates bicycle and pedestrian safety education.

As the number of students who use different types of transportation to commute (for example: walking, biking, carpooling, and transit) has risen over the years, the scope of the City's Safe Routes to School education offerings has grown. The 2018-2019 core education programs reached approximately 5,888 students, or roughly 49% of total PAUSD enrollment. Visit the Safe Routes to School Program Data page for more information on recent trends

    • Three lessons help students learn important skills for sharing the road safely and avoid the most common car-bike crashes. The last lesson, the Bike Rodeo, gives students a hands-on chance to practice making safe choices and mastering the rules of the road they’ve learned in class. The curriculum supports PAUSD-approved student transportation safety, health and wellness policies.
